So you are a parent and would like your children to become better in science. What do you do? Buy books more and more about science. Get the science kits, chemistry sets, to make yourself experience, they can build models?
The answers are hard to find. But since we are in the era of the Internet, there are sites that offer solutions for exactly this need of parents. Before starting to examine the specific benefits that these sites offer, go ahead anddetermine which sites should contain.
1) They must be attractive: Each of us are driven by appearances. But our fickle-mindedness, short attention lasted all children the most. Therefore, the overall appearance and visual presentation must be attractive and interesting for children. Fortunately for us, the Internet as a medium is visual. Therefore, it is not too difficult for sites to be visually appealing.
2) Sites that are easy to use: One thing that really bothers me is that somesites require you to have a high degree of familiarity with the site to be able to make it work. In fact it can happen to be so bad that even if a visitor has come to a site earlier, they are unable to find the corresponding page on their subsequent visit. The basic idea that I speak is that the site should have good navigation. No matter where you are on the website, you should be able to get to another point without too much headache.
3) Sites that are developing the right attitudechildren: As any teacher will attest, there is no information that a website transmits. It is a little more clarity of communication. But it is mainly the attitude that one develops in students' minds. Promote the right attitude can be done in different ways. One might be to simplify the concepts. Another might be to present scientific facts in ways that are attractive to children.
4) Sites that are interesting: By its very nature, science is reallyinteresting. Thus, the site should leverage on this factor. I really hate sites that make science are much more difficult than it really is. And the greatest crime is when a site presents science as something that is boring, or something that must be memorized. And the ultimate site of bad science is where the site focuses solely on the diagrams, theorems, definitions, jargon and formulas. This is the material that repels people.
5) Sites that are interesting: I know I amrepeat this section. But this is for a purpose. I rate this as one site as the most important quality in science for the kind Kid's Site. It is the treasure that surrounds us. There is magic and wonder of science. There is a sense of discovery and adventure. And when things go well, there is a sense of accomplishment if not miraculous. All these requirements must be met as a child.
Having established what makes a good science site for children, you asParent-user need to consider how best to make it work for your children. Here are some thoughts on the following:
a) Make sure you're hand holding the process at least a little. This means that there will be situations where a child may need to turn for help. Online help you can get some distance. But an adult, parent or minor may be better to help a child.
